World number 79 Gael Monfils and the unseeded Francisco Cerundolo will on Tuesday square off at the Paris Masters. The two will battle in the first round with the winner next setting up a showdown with eight seed Casper Ruud. Gael Monfils has been in excellent form in recent weeks and arrives for this match having won six of his last seven fixtures. This form allowed him to win his first tour title in almost two years as he triumphed in Stockholm. He was unable to replicate this feat in Vienna and was eliminated in the second round. The Frenchman, who is a two-time finalist in Paris, will be confident of another successful run in his home country Masters. Monfils has started the week up four places to 75th in the live ranking. He has compiled a 16-14 record and has won six of eight matches on indoor hard courts.

Francisco Cerundolo has hit a dip in form in recent outings and arrives for this match having lost his last three fixtures. He was defeated on an indoor hard court in his last outing which was in the first round in Vienna. But as he has the head-to-head advantage over Monfils, he will be confident of starting things off here with a win. The Argentine defeated Monfils the first time they met, which was last season in Miami. Cerundolo isn’t a strong performer on indoor hard courts and has rarely played on the surface in his career.
