Gabriel Diallo and Luca Nardi, both unseeded, will battle each other in the first round of the 2025 Australian Open. The winner will then face Adrian Mannarino or Karen Khachanov for a place in the third round. Below is our prediction for this match.

Diallo is making his debut in Melbourne and will be keen to have a strong impression. The Canadian made his Grand Slam debut last season as he featured at the French and US Opens.

At Flushing Meadows, Diallo, who has compiled a 3-2 record this season, produced a third-round finish. The 23-year-old started the season with a second-round finish in Hong Kong as a qualifier.

Having lost his last two matches, he has dropped two places to 88th in the live ranking.

Nardi is also making his Melbourne debut. The Italian is having a strong start to the year and will be confident of progressing past Diallo.

Nardi, who also made his major debut last season, is yet to win a Grand Slam tie. He lost in the first round at Wimbledon and at the French and US Opens.

The 21-year-old has picked up from where he left last season and has moved to 81st in the live ranking. He has won eight of his last nine matches going back to his winning campaign at the Rovereto Challenger in November.
