2023 US Open quarter-finalist Taylor Fritz takes on debutant Francisco Comesana in round three on Friday. The winner will face either Casper Ruud or Juncheng Shang in the last 16. Who will it be? Here's our match prediction.

Taylor Fritz is the 12th seed and has so far reached two Grand Slam quarter-finals this year. He's currently tenth in the ATP Live Race, so a good run in this hard court Grand Slam will boost his chances of making it into the end-of-season Finals.

Each of his last four Grand Slam events have seen him get to the fourth round. So far in New York, he's had straight sets victories over Camila Ugo Carabelli and Matteo Berrettini. He's won one hard court title this year.

Francisco Comesana is playing in the US Open for the first time. It's only his third Grand Slam but he did make it to round three at Wimbledon this year. The 23-year-old mainly plays on other surfaces rather than hard courts.

Before this tournament, he'd only won one of his four hard court matches in 2024 and hadn't appeared in a main draw. He's made a good debut in New York with wins over Dominic Stricker and 17th seed Ugo Humbert.

In both matches he lost the first set but then won the next three. He's up to 89th in the live rankings which is only two places below his career-high. We tip Fritz to win this match in straight sets.
