Top seed Francisco Cerundolo needs to beat unseeded Laslo Djere to reach the Chile Open final. Can Cerundolo continue his impressive form on clay? Here’s our match prediction.

The 26-year-old is attempting to reach his second clay court final of the year. He lost in the Buenos Aires final and then last week was a losing quarter-finalist in Rio. His good form has continued this week but it’s been a tough route to this semi-final.

His fiirst match saw Cerundolo beat unseeded Yannick Hanfmann in three sets. It was even tougher in Friday’s quarter-final as he had to come from a set down to defeat fifth-seeded Tomas Martin Etcheverry and is 26th in the live rankings.

Laslo Djere  last won a singles tournament in 2020 but he is in good form at present. This is his second semi-final of the year having also reached this stage in Buenos Aires.

So far in Santiago, he’s had wins over wild card Ignacio Buse, fourth seed Pedro Martinez and in the last eight, Jaeme Faria in three sets, losing the middle one. Those wins have taken him to 89th in the live rankings.

He’s had one previous meeting with Cerundolo and won that in three sets. That was played on clay in 2020.  We tip Cerundolo to win this.
