Francisco Cerundolo vs Daniel Evans Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Barcelona
by Daniel Ngulu | in Tennis Predictions
Francisco Cerundolo is making his debut appearance in the Barcelona Open and the 15th seed will be targeting a semi final berth when he faces off with 12th seed Daniel Evans in the quarters. This match, which will be played on an outdoor clay court, will be the second encounter between the two players. Cerundolo has won both his matches in Barcelona without dropping a set which has boosted his world ranking as it has seen him move up to 30th in the live ranking after he began the tournament as the 32nd-best player in the world. A win on Friday will see him equal his season-high ranking of number 29, achieved during his third-round finish at the Australian Open which happens to be his best-ever result at a Grand Slam tournament. The Argentine number one has blown hot and cold this season and has won just four more matches than he has lost. He will however be optimistic about a win against Evans after flooring third seed Casper Ruud.
Daniel Evans also defeated a top player in sixth seed Karen Khachanov to book a place in this round and will be equally optimistic about his chances of advancing to the semifinals in Barcelona for the first time. The Brit world number 26 has been inconsistent for the majority of the season as he has lost more matches (11) than he has won (seven). But his performance in Barcelona so far puts a win here not beyond him. He has also won his two matches without dropping a set and rather surprisingly, he is enjoying playing on clay more than on hard courts which is his preferred surface. Evans has lost eight of the 11 matches he has played on hard courts but is 4-3 on clay so far. Considering that his win over Cerundolo at Roland Garros was also on clay, it won’t be a shocker if he emerges the winner here, and a win will send him to 24th in the live ranking. The winner here will set up a semi-final clash with either top seed and defending champion Carlos Alcaraz or 10th seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
