Ben Shelton and Francisco Cerundolo are set to square off in the first semi-final at the Munich Open. This will be the two players’ second carrer meeting, but the first on clay, and the winner will proceed to face either Fabian Marozsan or Alexander Zverev in the final. Francisco Cerundolo continued with his impressive run on clay with a straight-sets victory over David Goffin in the quarters. 

With that result, the Argentine has now hit 20 victories so far this season and will hope to put a gloss on this run with the BMW Open title.

Second seed Ben Shelton has done well for a debutant at this event. He claimed his place in the last four with an impressive 6-4, 6-3 win against Luciano Darderi. 

In what was expected to be Shelton’s toughest match, the American turned it into his easiest. He had earlier eliminated Borna Gojo in three sets then needed a tiebreaker to beat Botic Van de Zandshulp in the second round. 

The challenge gets tougher, with Cerundolo a much more established player on clay. Shelton has the head-to-head advantage coming here, after his win against Cerundolo at Indian Wells last year.
