Fourth seed Francisco Cerundolo takes on the unseeded Alexandre Muller next at the Rio Open. They will battle in the quarter-finals with the winner facing Alexander Zverev or Francisco Comesana for a place in the final. Below is our prediction for this match.

Cerundolo defeated Luciano Darderi by coming from a set down in their second-round matchup. That was his sixth victory in seven clay outings this season.

The Argentine arrived in Rio after losing in the Buenos Aires final and he looks destined to ride that disappointment to the title. Now with eight wins in 11 matches, Cerundolo has maintained his hold on 26th place in the live ranking.

Alexandre Muller defeated Cerundolo in their only encounter to date which was last season in Auckland. He will hope for a repeat of the same as he targets to boost his quest for another tour title.

The Frenchman, who is also a strong clay player, was crowned champion in Hong Kong to start the season. He suffered a slight dip in form after that success but has looked in great shape this week.

Muller, who is yet to lose a set in Rio, defeated eighth seed Tomas Martin Etcheverry to progress to the last eight. This, in turn, has bumped him up six places to 54th in the live ranking.
