Francisco Cerundolo, the 31st seed at the Australian Open, will square off with the unseeded Alexander Bublik in the first round. The winner of their first career meetings will then battle Facundo Diaz Acosta or Zizou Bergs next. Below is our prediction for this match.

Francisco Cerundolo started the season with an early exit in Auckland and he will be keen to register his first win. The Argentine has returned to Melbourne Park for the third successive time.

In his previous two main draw appearances, he has won his opening-round tie. The 26-year-old, who finished last season with a 35-31 record, has dropped to 31st in the live ranking.

Alexander Bublik also began the season with a loss. The Kazakh, who seems yet to have wriggled his way out of last season’s poor form, fell in the first round in Adelaide.

This was his eighth loss in the last 10 matches going back to last season. Bublik, the ATP’s world number 33, hasn’t had the best of times at the Australian Open. He has featured in this major six times and has never won more than one match.

In his last two appearances, Bublik, a four-time tour champion, has been defeated in the opening round.
