Frances Tiafoe reached the last four at Indian Wells last year. The 18th seed has a tough task in the last 32 of this year's outdoor hard court tournament as he takes on 11th seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas. For the winner there's a match in the last 16 of this Masters 1000 tournament against either fifth seed Andrey Rublev or 32nd seeded Jiri Lehecka. Tiafoe has already reached a couple of quarter finals this year. Both were in outdoor hard court tournaments played in Hong Kong and Dallas. He beat unseeded Dusan Lajovic in his first match with both sets being won 6-3. He's defending all the points earned for reaching last year's semi-final so is down to 22nd in the live rankings. This is his seventh match against Tsitsipas and they are level at 3-3. Tiafoe has won the last two, both played in indoor hard court events. In outdoor hard court matches it's 2-1 to Tsitsipas.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is 11th in both the overall and live rankings. The Greek player reached the last 16 of the Australian Open this year but was beaten by Taylor Fritz in four sets. He's played two recent outdoor hard court events and made it to the last eight in Los Cabos. That was followed by getting to the quarter finals in Acapulco. He won the first set against Alex de Minaur for the loss of only one game but then failed to win the next two sets. Tsitsipas has only once reached the last eight at Indian Wells and that was achieved three years ago. His 2024 campaign began with a straight sets win over qualifer Lucas Pouille. We tip him to beat Tiafoe in this match.
