Matteo Arnaldi is one of the surprise packages at the Madrid Masters and will hope to keep the tag as he faces Frances Tiafoe next. These two are meeting in the fourth round, with the winner lined up to take on Tommy Paul or Jack Draper. Read on for our prediction of this match.

This will be the second meeting between the two players. Tiafoe won the first, a five-setter at Wimbledon last year. After his second-round opponent, Luciano Darderi, retired, Tiafoe had a more convincing run out in the third round, beating Alexandre Muller in straight sets.

He has now compiled a 12-9 record for the season, with six of the wins coming on clay.

Arnaldi has grown in strength as the tournament progresses. In his first-round match, he needed three sets to see off qualifier Borna Coric. He had to come from losing the opening set, and he has gone on to win six straight sets.

Among those was a 2-0 win against Novak Djokovic in the second round. To prove that wasn’t a fluke, he subjected Damir Dzumhur to a straight-sets win in the third round.

In this shape, he will feel confident of upsetting Tiafoe to avenge the loss in their only meeting so far. The Italian has compiled an 11-9 record for the season.
