Frances Tiafoe vs Marcos Giron Prediction & Betting Tips - ATP Houston

Sixth seeded Frances Tiafoe takes on Marcos Giron in round one of the US Men's Clay Court Championships. Tiafoe began this week ranked 30th in the world, 23 places above his opponent. The American is playing only his sixth tournament of the year. He's yet to get past the last 16 of a 2022 event. Tiafoe managed that in Adelaide in January and then in the Miami Masters last week, He's made one final on clay, that was four years ago when losing to Joao Sousa in Estoril. He has reached a final in this tournament but that was in the doubles losing in 2017. Two years ago though he did win a Challenger event on this surface  He also has a win on clay over Carlos Alcarez but would do well to achieve that these days. He'll be hoping his 2022 clay court season includes a decent display at Roland Garros where he has never won a match in seven visits.

Marcos Giron has been blowing hot and cold this year. He comes to Houston having lost his last three matches but earlier in the year, he reached the semi-finals in Dallas. He's had wins over Taylor Fritz and Pablo Carreno Busta (both top 20 players) this year so has a chance here. His best performance at Roland Garros is reaching the third round last year beating Grigor Dimitrov on the way. Not much impact has been made in other clay court events and his only preious appearance in Houston saw him lose in the first qualifying round three years ago. Tiafoe is in better form than his opponent and can get the win here.
