Eighth seed Frances Tiafoe and unseeded Dominik Koepfer will meet in the second round of the Mexican Open. Frances Tiafoe advanced past the second round in Acapulco for the first time last season. He produced a quarterfinal finish and will be hoping for an even deeper run this time around. The American came from a set down in his first-round tie with Max Purcell. He relinquished only three games in the final two sets with the third ending 6-0. The win was his sixth in 10 outings this season with five of those wins coming on hard courts. Currently ranked 16th in the ATP, Tiafoe can move up one place in the live ranking with a win here.

Dominik Koepfer also won his first-round tie in three sets. He defeated the qualifier Terence Atmane in two hours and 15 minutes. It was a positive start to a tournament he last played in three seasons ago. During his debut in 2021, Koepfer made it to the semifinals and will be hopeful of another deeper run. The German has had a strong start to the year and has so far compiled a 9-3 record. Six of his wins have come in eight outings on hard courts. Koepfer won the Canberra Challenger in his first appearance of the season and also produced a quarterfinal finish in Dallas. Making the second round has allowed him to move up seven places to 51st in the live ranking. The winner here will play one of Holger Rune, Aleksandar Kovacevic, or Jordan Thompson in the quarterfinals.
