World number 14 Frances Tiafoe will take on 37th-ranked Daniel Evans in the first round of the ATP Vienna Open on Tuesday. The winner of this match will move on to face either Gael Monfils or Daniel Altmaier in the Round of 16. These two have faced off on eight previous occasions, with each player winning four apiece. All eight matches were played on the hard surface. Tiafoe has experienced a bit of a slump since reaching the quarter-final at the US Open. The American has failed to win any of his last four matches since the start of last month. Following losses at the Davis Cup, he was beaten by Lorenzo Sonego and Aslan Karatsev in Shanghai and Tokyo, respectively. Those results have taken the American to 38-19 and 21-10 for the year. While his record is still firmly in the green, Tiafoe will be desperate to bring an end to his losing streak in this one. 

Standing in his way is Daniel Evans, who has also experienced a drop in form of late. The Brit won the Washington Open earlier this year but has only gotten past the second round of any competition on one occasion since then. He was beaten in the first round by qualifier Filip Misolic in Stockholm last week, which saw him drop out of the top 35 for the first time this year. His record for the year now stands at 19-26 and 11-15 on the hard surface. Notably, Evans won the most recent encounter back in August this year but is the underdog, according to the bookies.
