For the second year in a row, tenth seed Frances Tiafoe can reach the US Open last four. He takes on unseeded fellow American Ben Shelton in the quarter finals with the winner facing either Novak Djokovic or Taylor Fritz in the semi-finals. Tiafoe has been a consistent player in Grand Slam events this year, losing in round three in Australia, Roland Garros and Wimbledon. Back in his native US, he's got past that stage at last. His consistency has also been shown at Flushing Meadows and you have to go back to 2019 for the last time he didn't reach at least the fourth round. The 25-year-old has only dropped one set so far in this tournament. That was in the third round when he lost the first set to 22nd seeded Adrian Mannarino but then won the next three for the loss of only 11 games.

Ben Shelton is in his second Grand Slam quarter final of the year. Both have been achieved on outdoor hard courts and he's up to a career high 27th. Beating Tiafoe can take him up to 19th which would be a meteoric rise for the American who was as low as 177th last October. Aside from his two Grand Slam quarter finals, Shelton hasn't achieved a great deal this year. The first round saw him have to come from behind to get past Pedro Cachin in four sets. The second round match against Dominic Thiem only lasted 14 games before his opponent retired. Another set was dropped against Aslan Karatsev and in the last 16, Shelton beat 14th seeded Tommy Paul with only the second set lost. He's up against a more experienced opponent here but we believe Shelton can at least win a set. Go for over 3.5 sets to be played in this match.a
