Unseeded Frances Tiafoe attempts to beat 15th seed Alejandro Tabilo in the Montreal first round. The winner will be up against either Lorenzo Sonego or Tallon Griekspoor (both unseeded) in round two. Here's our match prediction.

Tiafoe is the world number 27 so still has some work to do to ensure he's seeded at the upcoming US Open. The American is up a place in the live rankings but only 35th in the ATP Race. He didn't go to Paris for the Olympics and has been in good form on hard courts instead.

Tiafoe made it to the last eight in Atlanta but went a round further last week in Washington. That included an impressive win over Andrey Rublev. Earlier in the year, the American reached two quarter-finals and a semi-final on this surface.

Alejandro Tabilo has played Tiafoe twice in the past and is yet to record a win. Both matches were played on hard courts, most recently at Indian Wells last year. He's yet to take a set off Tiafoe and is not in the best of form at present.

It's been a big year for him but he came into this tournament having lost his last three matches. That includes a first round exit at the Paris Olympics, losing to Roman Safiullin. He did win a hard court tournament in January but hasn't made it past the last 64 in three subsequent events. We back Tiafoe to win.
