France vs Wales Prediction & Betting Tips - Six Nations
by Devesh Jaganath | in Six Nations Predictions
The time has finally come! The 2025 Six Nations is set to get underway this weekend, with France taking on Wales at Stade de France on Friday evening. Les Bleus finished in second place in last season’s competition while the Dragons were the recipients of the Wooden Spoon. Check out our match prediction below!
Following the disappointment of bowing out of the 2023 Rugby World Cup on home soil, many were uncertain how France would perform in last year’s Six Nations. As it turned out, their title charge took a massive dent in their opening match which they lost to Ireland and they were completely out of the running after drawing with Italy in Lille during week three.
As for Wales, 2024 was a historic one, but for all the wrong reasons, as they failed to win a single match in the calendar year for the first time since 1937 when they played only three games. Let’s unpack some more key stats in this contest.

France - Wales: Form Analysis
After their underwhelming 2024 Six Nations campaign, France ended last year on an upward trajectory, winning all three of their Autumn Nations Series matches in November.
During that period, Les Blues beat Japan and Argentina either side of a statement victory over New Zealand, where they edged the mighty All Blacks 30-29 here in Saint-Denis.
Last season, the hosts recorded the most pick-and-go carries (70) and gained the most metres (175) from those carries in the Six Nations - something they will look to build on this term.
In the last three years, only South Africa and Ireland have beaten France on home soil!
Meanwhile, there is not a lot of optimism surrounding Welsh Rugby at the moment, as the team are riding a 12-match losing streak that dates back to their World Cup victory over Georgia in 2023.
The Dragons managed only four bonus points in last season’s Six Nations and went on to lose their final six games of the year, including a historic defeat to Fiji on their home patch.
Perhaps the only point of positivity for Warren Gatland’s side is that they have beaten France away on five occasions since 2000 - more than any other team since Italy joined the tournament.

France & Wales Squad Analysis
After foregoing the 2024 Six Nations to participate in the Olympics, Antoine Dupont is set to return to skipper Les Bleus from scrum-half this week and he will be joined in the halves pairing by Romain Ntamack.
Fabien Galthie has several players missing for this opening match due to injury, including the likes of Gael Fickou, Jonathan Danty, Anthony Jelonch, Charles Ollivon and Damian Penaud.
Matthieu Jalibert has been left out after leaving the squad during the Autumn Nations Series!
Meanwhile, Wales received a few significant injury boosts in the build-up to this tournament, with Josh Adams, Liam Williams and Dafydd Jenkins all returning to the squad from injury.
Gatland has also decided to shake things up by including Cardiff's Ben Thomas at fly-half and he will be joined by Tomos Williams in the number nine jumper.
Taulupe Faletau failed to shake off an injury in time to make the selection this week, which will see Aaron Wainwright installed at number eight.

Our France vs Wales Prediction
It is dark times for Wales rugby at present, with the team currently riding their worst-ever losing streak and seemingly struggling to find a proper style of play with several new players in their ranks.
Thus, France are understandably massive favourites here, and while they did not have the best season in 2024, Les Bleus are still a formidable opponent to face on their home patch. It’s tough to make a case for anything but a big home win in this one. Our France vs Wales prediction is France -18.5.
France vs Wales - Other Interesting Predictions

Each of France’s last five matches have ended with over 55.5 points, while three of Wales’ last four have finished above 55.5. Additionally, 56 or more points were scored in four of the last five matches between these sides.
