This will be a repeat of the 2021 final in Tokyo in which the USA won to bag a fourth straight Olympic gold. France overcame the challenge of reigning world champions Germany in the semi-finals while the US rallied to defeat Serbia.
Advancing to the final assures the competing nations of at least the silver medal but neither team will want to settle for that. This match will mark the sixth competitive meeting between the two. Of their previous five showdowns, four were at the Olympics.
The US won three of those Olympic battles and as record champions, are the clear favourites to claim gold. France have won four of their five matches at this year’s Games while the USA still have their 100% record intact.

France will contest for the Olympic gold for the fourth time in their history. They failed to claim the number one podium finish in their previous three finals. The most recent was in Tokyo three years ago when they fell 87-82 to the US. As hosts this time, they’ll be confident of getting over the hump.
They defeated Germany 73-69 in the semis to avenge their group-stage loss and one can smell another revenge loading here. Against Germany in the groups, France fell 85-71 but were a different team in the semis.
Vincent Collet’s men dominated defensively and held Germany to under 70 points for the first time in the tournament. Les Bleus would win 73-69 maintaining their streak of putting up over 70 points whenever they take to the court.
France, who are averaging 79.6 points at this year’s Games, have twice beaten the US. Both wins came in their last two meetings, the most recent being in the group stages of the Tokyo Games.
France and USA are meeting at the Olympics final for the second straight edition.
The USA have never failed to finish in the podium places at the Olympics. In their previous 19 appearances at the Olympics, they missed out on the gold only three times. The last time they finished outside the number one spot was in 2004, and are the favorites to win gold here.
