France take on Slovenia in the Men's European Volleyball Championships third and fourth place play-off. It's the game no team wants to play in. They'd much rather be preparing for the final but that's between Poland and Italy this time around. France are the Olympic chanmpions but last won the European title ten years ago and that wait will go on even further. This tournament saw them lose their semi-final to Italy. That's the second successive European Championships in which they have lost in the last four. The French side won Pool D but not the total approval of their coach. He wanted some better performances in the knockout stages and it did initially go well. They had wins over Bulgaria and Romania without dropping a set. It was a far tougher semi-final though and they failed to win a set off the hosts. France have won two of their last three matches against Slovenia. The most recent win was a 3-1 victory in the Wagner Memorial Trophy on August 20.

Slovenia have missed out on the finals of the European Championships for the first time since 2017. They have lost three of the last four finals but this time around it's just the third and fourth place play-off for them. They finished top of Pool B with just one set dropped. They've found it harder since then though and had to go to a final set to get past Turkey in the last 16. Another set was lost when beating Ukraine and then they were beaten 3-1 in the last four by Poland who are top of the world rankings. Slovenia are eighth in the world rankings, just one place below France but 14 points adrift of them. This could be a close match but France are our tip to get the victory.
