France kickoff their Six Nations 2022 campaign with a match against Italy at the Stade de France. The home team comes into this year’s tournament as many peoples favourite for the title. They will be livid with the way last year’s competition ended for them. Going into their final match they needed a 20 point victory margin over Scotland to clinch the title. They not only failed to achieve that but also lost the match in comical circumstances. France had a great November International series winning their three matches while also beating the All Blacks. They are seeking their first title since 2010 and this year represents their best chance in more than a decade. France will be led by World Player of the Year Anton Dupont after he declared himself fit after testing positive for Covid. They will regard anything other than a bonus point win as a failure against Italy.
Each year the calls grow louder for the Italians to be removed from the Six Nations as year after year they fail to win a match. They last won a Six Nations match back in 2015 when they beat Scotland on the final day. They have since gone 29 matches in the tournament without a win. Italy were on a nine game losing streak across all competitions until they beat Uruguay in November to break their win drought. Their record away from home is no wins in their last 17 matches with the last win coming in 2018 against Japan in a friendly international. Italy will be hoping young stars like Paulo Garbisi can shine to avoid more embarrassing defeats.
