France vs Ireland Prediction & Betting Tips - Six Nations
by Steve Ashfield | in Six Nations Predictions
Ireland won the Six Nations last year and won all their matches to clinch a Grand Slam. They had a poor World Cup and are not the favorites to retain their Six Nations title. The current favorites are France who host Ireland in this opening match in the tournament. A win for either side will put them in a strong position to go on and win the tournament and home advantage for the French side is likely to play an important part in this game.Limited Offer. France - Ireland: Form Analysis
Both of these countries had disappointing results in the 2023 Rugby World Cup. France were the host nation but lost to eventual winners South Africa in the last eight by just one point. They would certainly have expected to get further than that with the tournament being played on home soil. France have only won the Six Nations once since 2010. That was in 2022 when they also won the Grand Slam. This is their first match since their World Cup exit and they will be out for revenge after losing to Ireland in Dublin in last year's Six Nations tournament. Les Bleus had won seven matches in a row before losing to South Africa. In the Six Nations they have three of their five matches on home soil this year with Italy and England also to be faced in Paris. Seven of their last eight home games in this tournament have been won, the other being a loss to Scotland in 2021.
Ireland are the defending Six Nations champions and that triumph made them the world's number one side. They then had yet another poor World Cup being eliminated in the quarter finals losing to eventual runners-up New Zealand. They won 18 games in a row before that loss and not since France beat them in 2022 have they lost to a side other than New Zealand or the Maori All Blacks. Ireland have only won one of their last four games against France, that home win in the 2023 Six Nations. On their travels to France, Ireland have also won three of the last four with the Irish not winning since 2018.

France & Ireland Squad Analysis
France will have Maxime Lucu at scrum-half for this match. They are without Antoine Dupont whose main focus this year is to take part in the Olympics Rugby Sevens tournament being held in Paris this summer. Romain Ntamack is also going to miss this game due to a knee injury. They will be captained by Gregory Alldritt. Ireland no longer have Johnny Sexton in their line-up. He retired after the World Cup and leaves a massive hole for the Irish to fill. Keith Earls has also retired and they have injury problems too and Garry RIngrose is also doubtful. Jack Crowley will be wearing the number 10 jersey with Jamison Gibson Park playing scrum-half.
