France vs Belgium Prediction & Betting Tips - Olympic Matches Women
by Kennedy Kechula | in Basketball Predictions
Hosts France will on Friday take on Belgium in the second semi-final of the 2024 Paris Olympics Women’s Basketball Tournament. The winner will set up a showdown with either the USA or Australia in the gold medal match which will be played on Sunday. A win in this match will confirm at least a silver medal.
However, defeat will not mean elimination as the two semi-final losers will face off in the third-place playoff for the bronze medal right before the final. France overcame Germany in the quarter-finals while Belgium defeated former silver medalists Spain.
This match will mark the fifth competitive encounter between France and Belgium and the first as an Olympic Games event. Belgium have the head-to-head advantage in this fixture but it is France who are the bookies’ favourites to win here. In this article, we analyse the records for the two nations and offer a prediction.

France - Belgium: Form Analysis
France have for the third successive time advanced to the semi-finals of an Olympic tournament. The 2024 hosts won silver in 2016 in Rio and bronze in Tokyo in 2021. With this record and the full backing of the home crowd, Jean-Aime Toupane’s players will be confident of going all the way.
Les Bleues bounced back after defeat in their final group match, with a dominant 84-71 victory over Germany in the last round. They have now won three of their four matches in Paris and averaged 76.5 points which is the third-best tally.
France, whose sole win against Belgium came in EuroBasket in 2019, have been in incredible form in 2024. They have claimed 11 wins in 12 matches. Australia was the only team to defeat France in that run but it had no real impact as they were still able to finish as group winners.
France might have won once in four meetings with Belgium but they are favorites here.
Belgium began their second appearance at the Summer Games in horrible fashion. They lost their opening two matches and needed to win their final group match to qualify for the knockout rounds.
Rachid Meziane’s players struggled in defence to start the tournament and allowed over 80 points against Germany and the USA. However, after seeing off Japan in a 27-point blowout to make it to the quarters, they haven’t allowed more than 66 points.
The Belgian Cats dominated their last eight battle with Spain, winning 79-66. With their strong record against France, they will be confident of progressing to the final. Belgium have won three of the four meetings with France. Their last meeting was in the semi-finals of the 2023 EuroBasket.

Our France vs Belgium Prediction
Our prediction for France v Belgium is for France to win. Though they have won their last two games, Belgium have looked shaky in Paris and have lost twice in four outings. France on the other hand have looked superb and throughout 2024 only suffered defeat once.
With a strong defensive showing that has kept two of their four opponents under 60 points, France are our choice to win. They also have the advantage of the home crowd being fully backing them.
France vs Belgium - Other Interesting Predictions
Over 139.0 points
For our second take in this match, we settle for over 139.0 points to be scored. Both France and Belgium sit in the top three places for most points per game at this year’s Olympics, averaging 76 points each. With a final at stake here, we expect a more offensive game.
