Start your engines! The 2025 Formula 1 season is finally here, and the first race of the new year takes us to Melbourne for the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday. Max Verstappen is the defending champion, while Lando Norris finished second, and Charles Leclerc rounded out the top three in 2024. Let’s get into the race prediction.

After a sensational 2024, McLaren made the perfect start to the new season, with Lando Norris outpacing all-comers to claim pole for the Australian Grand Prix on Sunday. 

The Brit posted a time of 1:15.096, just shy of a tenth of a second faster than his teammate Oscar Piastri, who helped the team secure the Constructors Championship last year. 

Defending champion Max Verstappen finished in third place, which was an impressive recovery after struggling throughout the Friday session. His new partner, Liam Lawson, was knocked out in Q1.

Lewis Hamilton, now sporting the colours of Ferrari, only managed eighth place and will line up alongside his new teammate, Charles Leclerc, who finished in P7. 

Arguably, the most impressive performances of the session, though, came from the Racing Bulls and Yuki Tsunoda and Williams’ Alex Albon. The pair will occupy the third row on the grid. 

Alpine’s Pierre Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz round out the top 10.
