Round 13 of the 2024 Formula 1 season heads to the Hungaroring in Budapest for the Hungarian Grand Prix this weekend! Max Verstappen continues to lead the way in the driver standings with 255 points. Lando Norris is having the best season of his career and is currently second with 171. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is in third spot with 150 points to date.
The 2024 F1 season continues to deliver surprises and it’s McLaren’s Lando Norris who will start the Hungarian Grand Prix in pole position after an eventful qualifying session in Budapest. In a rain-interrupted session, the Brit emerged as the fastest, putting in a blistering 1:15:227 to secure a 1-2 for McLaren with teammate Oscar Piastri +0.022 seconds behind him. Championship leader Max Verstappen will start in P3 after Red Bull opted against sending him back on track for his final run, unwilling to risk an accident in the rain. Much of that decision stemmed from an incident involving his teammate Sergio Perez, who put the RB20 into the walls at the exit of Turn 8 during Q1. The pressure is undoubtedly piling on the Mexican, who finished in P17 last time out at Silverstone.
Joining Verstappen in the second row will be Carlos Sainz and splitting the Ferraris on the starting grid was Lewis Hamilton, who had to fly the flag for the team on his own after Mercedes made a catastrophic blunder of sending out George Russel with insufficient fuel to complete the first qualifying session. Russell will start the race in P17. Rounding out the top 10 were Fernando Alonso in P7, Lance Stoll in eighth and Daniel Ricciardo in ninth. Yuki Tsunoda, despite causing the second red flag of the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying with a big accident, still managed to clock a time of 1:16:477, giving him a top-10 position at the start line.

Our Hungarian Grand Prix - Formula 1 prediction
The 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix is shaping up to be a nail-biter with Lando Norris and Max Verstappen looking to make amends for their performances at Silverstone last time out. Indeed, the Brit will start from the front of the grid but that does not give a clear indication of how qualifying went, given that Red Bull opted against sending their Dutch ace out for his final run. Verstappen will know better than most that he needs a few more wins to feel comfortable atop the standings and we feel he will make a statement in this one. Our Hungarian Grand Prix prediction: Max Verstappen wins!
