The Florida Panthers host local rivals the Tampa Bay Lightning at the FLA Live Arena for this Monday night NHL clash. Florida are sitting fifth in the Atlantic division with a record of 24 wins, 22 losses and six overtime defeats, putting them on 54 points and a massive 29 points behind the top-seeded Boston Bruins. Their last game ended in a huge 4-3 overtime victory over the previously mentioned Bruins which should give the Panthers a massive confidence boost as the Bruins have been the league’s most impressive team. The result snapped a three game losing streak for Florida and also demonstrated their much improved home form compared to their away performances. The Panthers have won 13 of their 23 home games compared to 11 away wins from 29 road trips. They’d be able to make a real statement here if they are able to follow up a win over Boston with a win over last season’s Stanley Cup runners-up.
The Lightning come in looking to extend their winning streak to four games following their 5-2 home victory over the Kings. Tampa Bay has won three in a row at home but will be faced with a road trip here and they come in facing a two game away losing streak. The Lightning have been having a fairly strong season overall, sitting on a record of 32 wins, 15 losses and one overtime defeat for a points total of 65 and third-place in the Atlantic division. In addition to their three game winning streak, the Bolts have also won eight of their last 10 games. However, Tampa Bay’s strength this season has been their away form as they are only slightly above .500 on the road with an away record of 12 wins and 11 losses.
