Eighth seed Felix Auger-Aliassime begins his Basel title defence with a first-round showdown against unseeded Sebastian Baez. The two get to meet for the second time this season. We have a prediction for this Monday match. 

Felix Auger-Aliassime is the two-time Basel defending champion. He won his first title in 2022, on his main draw debut in this event. Since then he has won 10 straight matches here, losing just two sets in that streak. 

The Canadian, currently ranked 19th in the live ranking, is a huge favourite to once again emerge champion. 

A finalist in Madrid during the clay season, Auger-Aliassime has compiled a 31-24 record. One of his wins came against Baez last month in the Davis Cup. 

Sebastian Baez has lost his last four matches. He was defeated in Antwerp in the opening round last time out. The defeat kept him winless on indoor hard courts since the opening round of last year’s Basel event. 

Baez isn’t a strong indoor hardcourt player and since 2022, has managed just one win in 14 such matches. 

Currently placed 26th in the live ranking, Baez has compiled a decent 31-25 record and has won two titles on clay. 

A win for Sebastian Baez here will see him play Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard or a yet-to-be-revealed qualifier next.
