Canada's Felix Auger-Aliassime faces Maximilian Materer from Germany in round two of the Olympic men's singles. The Canadian is the 13th seed at Roland Garros and the worthy favorite to progress. Read on to discover our prediction of the result.

Auger-Aliassime is the world number 19 and has been making his way back up the rankings this year. This is his second time in the Olympics, the other being three years ago in Tokyo. He lost in his first match there but has avoided doing that this time in Paris.

The 23-year-old (24 next month) beat America's Marcos Giron to get his first win in the Olympics. Only five games were lost in that first round win. The Canadian wlll appreciate this tournament being played on clay at Roland Garros.

Twice in the last three years he's reached the fourth round, including in 2024. Auger-Aliassime has reached the clay court final in Madrid this year and two other quarter-finals. That includes the recent tournament held in Gstaad.

Maximilian Marterer has had one previous match against his opponent. That was on clay in Munich this year and he was beaten in three sets. All three went to a tie-break so a side bet on one here might prove profitable.

The German is ranked 116th and his career-high of 45th was achieved six years ago. This is his Olympics debut and in the first round he beat Dusan Lajovic in three sets, losing the middle one. Marterer had lost three of his previous four matches before that victory.

On clay this year, the 29-year-old lost in round two at Roland Garros. He has only won two main draw matches in ATP Tour clay tournaments this year, one being that first round win. We tip Auger-Aliassime to win in straight sets.
