An all-Argentine Swedish Open quarterfinal will have Francisco Cerundolo play Federico Coria on Friday. The winner in this match will play either fifth-seed Alexander Zverev or second-seed Andrey Rublev in the semis. Federico Coria has claimed 15 of his 16 total victories in 2023 on clay. The latest of which was a straight sets victory over the wildcard Leo Borg. After defeating another Argentine, Sebastian Baez in the opening round in three sets, Coria will be confident of reaching the semifinals. He reached the final in Bastad in 2021 which was also the first time he advanced past the second round. He has won six of his eight matches against Cerundolo, including earlier this year in Cordoba. The 31-year-old is edging closer to getting back to the ATP top 100. He is now up to 105th in the live ranking.

Cerundolo has been on the receiving end a lot in this fixture, including in the last three encounters. An injury ended their quarterfinal contest in Cordoba prematurely. But as he is the defending champion in Bastad and has form on his side, he will be confident of swinging the tide. Cerundolo has won 29 of his 46 matches thus far with 17 of those coming on clay. His form this season has seen him play two finals. He lost on clay in Lyon but won on grass, his first tour title on grass, in Eastbourne. Cerundolo is making his third appearance here and to begin, defeated Luca Van Assche in straight sets. Despite this, he has dropped out of the ATP top 20 and is currently ranked 21st in the live ranking.
