Qualifier Facundo Bagnis and wildcard Dominic Thiem have a date in the opening round of the Generali Open on Tuesday. Bagnis is making his fifth appearance in Kitzbuhel and the third in the main draw. The Argentine won his two qualifiers in three sets each to finally take charge of his season. Thiem is up two places to 114th in the live ranking. The Austrian was unable to build on his win over Bagnis in Umag and was eliminated in his next match. He has struggled this year and will hope this tournament lights a spark in his quest to turn his season around. Thiem is a former champion in Kitzbuhel. He won the 2019 edition and this will be his second appearance here since that triumph. Last season he made it to the quarterfinals. The former world number three has registered a 14-20 win-loss record thus far. All his 14 victories have come on clay with the latest being the win over Bagnis in Croatia. The winner here will set up a second-round showdown with either seventh-seed Dusan Lajovic or the unseeded Zhang Zhizhen.
