World number 22 Ugo Humbert will take on wildcard Fabio Fognini in the semi-final of the ATP Moselle Open on Friday evening. The winner of this match will move on to face either Alexander Shevchenko or Pierre-Hugues Herbert in the final. These two have only met once in the past back in 2020 and Humbert won the match in straight sets. The Frenchman has the home-court advantage and it almost feels as though he is overdue to lift an ATP trophy this season. He has already made several quarter-final and semi-final appearances this year. The most recent ones came at the Shanghai Masters and a week later in Basel. Humbert beat Dominic Thiem and Harold Mayot in the previous rounds, taking his record to 47-26 for the year. His hard court record is now 17-11, while on the indoor courts, it stands at 14-6. Humbert is the clear favourite in this one. 

Meanwhile, veteran Fabio Fognini is having an incredible run here in France despite experiencing a very difficult season to this point. The 36-year-old has won just six matches on the main tour to date, half of which have come in this tournament. The Italian has failed to get past the third round of any of his last three tournaments ahead of this one. However, he will now feature in his first ATP semi-final of the year, having beaten Thiago Seyboth Wild, Alexander Bublik and Lorenzo Sonego in the first three rounds. Fognini’s indoor record currently stands at 5-2, while he has lost all eight of his outdoor matches this season. The Italian is a huge underdog, but can he pull off what would be his biggest win of the season here?
