11th seeded Alex de Minaur begins his Shanghai Masters campaign. After receiving a first round bye he now faces Fabian Marozsan. The winner will take on either Dusan Lajovic or the 23rd seeded Tallon Griekspoor in round three. Alex de Minaur is 12th in the latest rankings and 11th in the Live ATP Race. He has plenty of work to do if wanting to qualify for the Tour Finals but a deep run in this Masters tournament would boost his chances. The Australian is playing his first singles tournament since the US Open, only taking part in the Davis Cup since then, winning two of his three matches. He's had some good form on hard courts in recent months. That includes reaching finals in Los Cabos and Toronto and the last 16 in New York.
Fabian Marozsan is down at 92nd in the rankings but up to 80th in the live rankings. That beats his previous career best of 82nd achieved two months ago. The Hungarian beat Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets to reach the second round of this Masters tournament. His best form this year has been shown on clay with two Challenger Tour events won and a run to the fourth round of the Rome Masters where he beat Carlos Alcaraz. The 23-year-old lost in the first qualifying round of the Astana hard court tournament in his most recent event. We go for de Minaur to win this in straight sets.
