Patrick Kypson bids to continue his unbeaten record against Ethan Quinn. This is a first round match in the Masters 1000 Indian Wells tournament and being played on an outdoor hard court. For the winner there's a tough match against 14th seed Ugo Humbert who has won two tournaments this year. Kypson is ranked 151st in the latest ranking list and the American received a wild card to play in this tournament. His career high ranking is 144th and that was achieved last month. He can set a new career high if making it into the second round at Indian Wells for the first time. This year has seen him win a Challenger Tour event in Cleveland and he beat Quinn in the final of that tournament. His best run on the ATP Tour was in Delray Beach where he made it to the last eight.

Quinn had to qualify to get into this main draw as he's at 284th in the latest ranking list. That was a career high for the 19-year-old American but a new one has now been set. He beat Quentin Halys (who was seeded 10th in qualifying) and then had to come from behind to defeat 23rd seed Andrea Vavassori. Those two wins have taken him up to 248th in the live rankings at the time of writing this preview. Quinn was ranked outside the top 300 when the year began but has not won a match in the main draw of an ATP Tour event. All three of his previous matches against Kypson have been lost and another defeat looms here.
