Italy will play Russia in the final of the Women’s Doubles at the Paris Olympics. Youngsters Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider will represent Russia while Jasmine Paolini and Sara Errani make up the Italy team. Follow on for our preview and prediction for this match.

Italian duo Errani and Paolini has had success in doubles tournaments and also with other partners in the WTA. The two have contested five tour finals together and have won three titles, thus bringing a massive wealth of experience. Their most recent success was at the Italian Open earlier this year.

This will be Paolini’s third final at Roland Garros this year. She finished as runner-up in singles and doubles alongside Errani at the French Open. Errani on her part has claimed at least one Grand Slam title in doubles and is seeking a career Golden Slam. Italy defeated Karolina Muchova and Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic in straight sets in the semi-finals.

Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider hadn’t played in doubles events together before Paris. However, even with their inexperience, they’ll secure at the very least a silver medal. The young Russians, who are playing in Paris under a neutral flag, defeated eighth-seed Spain in the semi-finals in straight sets.

Though their doubles careers were largely nonexistent until Paris, Shnaider and Andreeva have had success as singles. Shnaider, who made her tour debut last year, has won three titles already this season.

All three have been on different surfaces with the most recent coming on clay in Budapest. Andreeva on her part became the latest teenager to make it to a major semi-final. The 17-year-old earned this feat at the French Open back in June. Though they lack doubles experience, Shnaider and Andreeva have what it takes to claim the gold here.
