England play host to Wales in this crucial third round match in the Guinness Six Nations. The home team are in second position with six points while the visitors are in fifth position with four points. Both teams have suffered one loss so far in the competition and another loss will see the loser out of the running for the title. England are fresh of a 33-0 drubbing of Italy in their last match and will take heart from the fact that their defence was never breached in 80 minutes. They have been in brilliant form at Twickenham and have won their last seven matches at their fortress. England last had a home loss against Wales back in the 2012 season. England will again be pinning their hopes on young Marcus Smith as he has scored 30 of his team’s 53 points in this year’s competition.
Wales bounced back after their first round loss with an excellent 20-17 win over Scotland in their last match. The defending champions face an uphill battle to keep their title defence alive as they visit Twickenham, a venue where they have enjoyed very little success. The Wales team has been crippled with injury to key players none more so than the loss of their captain Alun Wyn Jones. The leadership of his replacement Dan Biggar will be fully tested at England’s home of rugby. Wales have a dismal away record winning just two of their last nine matches outside of Wales. They will need to improve this record or else they will be relinquishing their crown very early in the competition.
