England vs South Africa Prediction & Betting Tips - Test Matchs
by Devesh Jaganath | in Rugby Predictions
The iconic Twickenham Stadium will burst into life on Saturday afternoon when world champions South Africa arrive to face England in the Autumn Nations Series. The Red Rose slipped to seventh place in the world rankings last week, while the Springboks moved back to the summit of the standings. Check out our match prediction below.
This is a rivalry that dates all the way back to 1906, and during that time South Africa have been the more successful nation, winning 28 of the 46 encounters between the sides, while England have won 16 and two games ended level. The last time these familiar foes crossed paths was at the semi-final of the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France, where the Springboks claimed a one-point victory en route to the title.
Bookmakers have priced the visitors as the clear favourites in this match, but England will be out for revenge here and will have the best part of the expected 60,000+ in attendance roaring them on to victory. Let’s get into the key stats.

England - South Africa: Form Analysis
England kicked off their year-end international last weekend at this venue but suffered a disappointing 42-37 defeat against Australia, who have been far from their best of late.
That result marked the Red Rose’s fourth loss in a row following three on the bounce against New Zealand, while they have only managed two wins in their last eight dating back to the Six Nations.
Notably, though, of the last six defeats the hosts have suffered, five of them were by seven points or less, while three were by fewer than three points.
Three of the last five matches between these sides have been decided by one point!
Meanwhile, South Africa made the trip to Murrayfield in their opening match of the Autumn Nations Series last week and knocked over Scotland 32-15.
With that victory, the Springboks have now recorded eight wins from their last 10 matches, a period during which they also secured the 2024 Rugby Championship title.
While England dominated this fixture at this venue in the early 2000s, the Boks have now won six of their last 10 visits to Twickenham Stadium since November 2006. Their most recent matchup ended in a 27-13 victory at the end of 2022.

England & South Africa Squad Analysis
Steve Borthwick announced his squad for this match earlier in the week and opted for four changes to the side that lost to the Wallabies last time out.
Ollie Sleightholme, Jack van Poortvliet, Freddie Steward and Sam Underhill are the players that have been brought into the team, while Immanuel Feyi-Waboso, Tom Curry, Ben Spencer and George Furbank have been left out.
Rassie Erasmus, meanwhile, has made a total of 12 changes to the Springboks for this match!
The only players who have retained their place from last week’s squad that beat the Scots are Eben Etzebeth, Ox Nche and Bongi Mbonambi.
Notably, Manie Libbok has been given the number 10 jersey in place of Handre Pollard and a surprise selection sees Wilco Louw brought into the Boks pack at number three.
In the backfield, Cheslin Kolbe and Kurt-Lee Arendse will line up on the flanks, while Damian de Allende and Jesse Kriel will resume their partnership in the centre of the park.

Our England vs South Africa Prediction
South Africa will arrive at Twickenham in very high spirits after making fairly light work of Scotland last week, despite sending out a second-string side that were quite a long way from their best form.
England, on the other hand, were left stunned by Australia and are now on a four-match losing streak and have only beaten Japan since the mid-year internationals. We are expecting a close contest but fancy the Springboks to win by at least four points. Our England vs South Africa prediction: South Africa -3.5!
England vs South Africa - Other Interesting Predictions
England + 10.5
While we are expecting an away win here, we do not think it will be by a huge margin. England have not lost a match by 10 or more points since a 29-10 defeat against Ireland in August 2023.
