England and Samoa will lock horns in their final group-stage match of the 2023 Rugby World Cup on Saturday afternoon. The English lead Pool D with 14 points, while Manu Samoa are in fourth place. England have been improving with each match at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. They got the tournament started with a 27-10 victory over Argentina led by George Ford's boot and followed that up with a bonus-point win over Japan. Steve Borthwick's side then put on a dominant display to beat Chile 71-0 last week. With that, they are now guaranteed a place in the last eight against either Fiji or Australia. However, while they have secured a qualification place, Borthwick will insist on maintaining focus in this one. His side’s performances have been nowhere near the likes of Ireland and France, and they will need to gather all the momentum they can before heading to the knockout stages.
Meanwhile, While Samoa are not mathematically out of the competition, it will take an incredible sequence of events to see them sneak into second place in Pool D. To progress, they will not only need to beat England by a 28-point margin but will also need Argentina and Japan to draw their final group match. Samoa got their tournament off to a winning start, beating Chile 43-10 in week one. However, they failed to follow up on that victory losing 19-10 to Argentina and 28-22 against Japan. In their last match, Ben Lam received a red card which forced them to play a fair portion of the game with 14 men, while Jonathan Taumateine was also sent to the sin bin in the match. Nevertheless, with there still being a chance to qualify, albeit a slim one, we can expect Samoa to leave everything on the field in this one.
