Match 28 of the 2024 T20 World Cup will see England take on Oman at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium on Thursday afternoon. England are currently fourth in the group while Oman are fifth. After a disastrous 50-over tournament last year, England now find themselves in a major spot of bother in the shortest format and a loss here could see them eliminated from the competition altogether. They have earned just one point in their two games which came due to their match against Scotland being abandoned due to rain, while they lost their opening match to Australia by 36 runs. Against the Aussies, Jos Buttler and Phil Salt gave the side a solid foundation of 73/1 in the first seven overs, but without Ben Stokes in the side, England lacked their customary firepower in the middle order and came up 36 runs short of their target. With Scotland and Australia on five and four points, respectively, England have to win their final two matches in the group, while net run rate could also end up being a major factor in the final standings. 

Meanwhile, Oman have already been eliminated from the Super Eight equation and will play out this match as a formality. However, they can be well proud of their performances as many had expected them to be the whipping boys in the group, but as it has turned out, they have given the other sides in this group a proper run for their money. Against Namibia in match one, Oman took the game to the first super over in T20 World Cups since 2012 but lost by 11 runs. In game two, they held Australia to 164/5, which was significantly lower than the 201 the Aussies scored against England. And against Scotland, their batting performance was excellent, but their bowling lineup could have done better.
