Paula Badosa will take on Emma Raducanu in the second of the WTA Washington Open quarter-finals on Friday. Read on for our preview and a prediction of the match as wildcard Badosa continues to enjoy her Washington debut.

Badosa sailed to the last eight after her opponent Liudmila Samsonova retired with injury in the first set on Thursday. The Spaniard will benefit from extended rest going into this game, as she had earlier seen off Sofia Kenin in straight sets.

Badosa has now won more than a match in five competitions this year. She has had a fruitful two months and continues to recover from an injury-constrained season in 2023. The last time she advanced to the semis was in Adelaide last year. This will be her first quarter final appearance after losing one in Bad Homburg. The former world number 2 has suffered four quarter-final losses before.

Emma Raducanu has had a tougher run to the quarters than Badosa. After battling through three sets to beat Elise Mertens, she eliminated crowd favorite Peyton Stearns in straight sets in the last round.

This match marks the second meeting for the two players and the first at tour level. Raducanu beat Badosa by straight sets in their first meeting in 2019 in the ITF circuit and will be looking to make it two here.

The 2021 US Open champion is playing in her fourth quarterfinal of the season and will hope to improve on her previous performances. Having won her most significant title in the US, the Brit will be eyeing her first semi-final in the country since 2021. Ahead of this match, Raducanu won 18 of her 28 matches, a respectable run after returning from injury.
