Emma Raducanu vs Alizé Cornet Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA US Open

Emma Raducanu begins the defence of her US Open title. The 11th seed faces a tough first round match against the unseeded Alize Cornet. Raducanu famously won this tounrament last year as a qualifier but hasn't had the best of years since then. There have been some highs with recent wins over Serena Williama and Viktoria Azarenka but it's mainly been an inconsistent 12 months. There have been fitness problems and the past week has seen a possible wrist injury causing her problems. Changing coaches hasn't helped her either. This is an important tournament for Raducanu as she has to defend the points that were earned when winning the title last year. That's shown by the fact her live ranking is 79th, an early loss at Flushing Meadows would see her plummet down the rankings.  It's hard to back her to win this match with concerns over that wrist injury. It might be better to leave any bets on her until the match actually gets underway to see if she is having problems.

Cornet is making her 63rd consecutive appearance in a Grand Slam which is a new record. The French player is ranked 40th in the world and is one of the worst draws Raducanu could get at this stage of the tournament. Her most recent event was played last week and Cornet made it to the semi-finals in Cleveland. Her Grand Slam form has been solid this year with a quarter final in Australia (her best ever Grand Slam performance) with wins over Muguruza and Halep), the third round at Roland Garros and the fourth round at Wimbledon where she beat Iga Swiatek.  Back her to get a win over Emma Raducanu and ensure there's no Fairytale in New York this year.
