Top seed Emma Navarro faces the defending champion Zeynep Somnez in the last eight of the Merida Open. The winner will face either qualifier Maya Joint or unseeded Elina Avanesyan in the last four. Here's our match prediction.

Emma Navarro is the world number ten but down a place in the live rankings. The American is in her third WTA Tour quarter-final of the year. Navarro also reached the last eight in Adelaide and then the Australian Open.

The 23-year-old had lost three of her last four matches before this tournament. Her one match this week saw her beat qualifier Petra Martic for the loss of only three games.

Zeynep Somnez won this title last year and received a wild card to try and defend her trophy. The Turk was a career-high 88th in the last rankings and is 77th in the live list. 

This year has seen the 22-year-old fail to get past round one of a tournament before this week. She'd also lost three of her last four matches before heading to Merida. The first round saw her beat eighth-seeded Maria Sakkari in straight sets.

Round two saw her defeat unseeded Magda Linnette with her opponent retiring when a set and 3-1 down.
