Top seed Emma Navarro is playing in her first WTA Tour semi-final of the year. The American faces unseeded Eliina Avanesyan for a place in Sunday’s final. Here’s our match prediction.

The winner of this match will be up against either Emiliana Arango or Daria Saville (both qualifiers) in the title decider.

Navarro was tenth in the last ranking list, two places below her career-high. This year has seen her be a losing quarter-finalist in two other outdoor hard court tournaments, including the Australian Open.

The 23-year-old had been struggling with her form before this tournament. Wins this week have come against qualifier Petra Martic (only three games lost) and defending champion Zeynep Somnez without dropping a set.

Elina Avanesyan is in her second semi-final of the year. Her first was in Hobart where the Armenian lost in three sets to McCartney Kessler. A win here will take Avanesyan into her second WTA Tour final and her first on an outdoor hard court.

So far Avanesyan has beaten seventh seed Magdalena Frech (after losing the first set), Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and in the last eight, qualifier Maya Joint. Her opponent won the first set  but Avanesyan levelled and then won the final set to love.

Navarro is in good form and we tip her to win this match.
