Second seed Jannik Sinner takes on unseeded Emil Ruusuvuori on Friday in one of the Libema Open quarterfinals. The winner will set up a clash against fourth seed Alex de Minaur or sixth seed Tallon Griekspoor in the semifinals. Ruusuvuori has dropped four places to 46th in the live ranking despite winning his two rounds in Hertogenbosch. He has been forced to a deciding set in both his matches with the last seeing him overcome the challenge of seventh seed Ugo Humbert. The Finn has now won 20 of the 16 matches he has played. He has mostly found it hard to navigate on grass. Before arriving in Hertogenbosch, Ruusuvuori had won the same number of matches as he had lost on the surface.

Sinner has also not had the best of times while playing on grass. So far he has won seven and lost seven of the 14 matches he has played on the surface since 2019. However, having defeated Ruusuvuori five times in six meetings, he will be confident of winning here. The current world number nine defeated Alexander Bublik in straight sets in the second round. That saw him begin his grass-court campaign on the right note. The Italian has been excellent so far in 2023 and has won 30 of the 38 matches he has played. He has contested three finals so far, winning one title.
