The 2023 Miami Open quarterfinal matches are lined up for Wednesday with 10th seed Jannik Sinner taking on world number 54 Emil Ruusuvuori on an outdoor hard court in one of the games. Sinner will seek to advance past this round for only the second time. The current world number 10 in the live ranking was a losing finalist here in 2021 on his debut at the tournament. He was unable to replicate this at last year’s tournament as he was eliminated in the quarterfinals but on his path, he defeated Ruusuvuori in the second round after three sets. The Italian number one has been one of the best-performing players this season and has made it to two finals already, winning in Montpellier and finishing as runners-up in Rotterdam. He has made it to at least the semifinals in his last three tournaments and will expect nothing less here.

Emil Ruusuvuori served off in Miami ranked 54th in the world but his superb form to reach the quarterfinals for the first time has catapulted him up 17 places to 37th in the live ranking which is a career-high. The Finn has dropped only one set from his four matches and will want to keep that going after a difficult start to the campaign. He has had a topsy-turvy season and before arriving in Miami, had only won six matches. Ruusuvuori came close to beating Sinner last year here in the second round by coming from a set down to force a deciding set and will have this in the back of his mind on Wednesday. Sinner has won four of the five matches between the two and a last-four showdown with either top seed Carlos Alcaraz or ninth seed Taylor Fritz awaits the winner here.
