Top seed Elise Mertens is through to yet another Hobart International final and will battle second seed Emma Navarro for the title. Mertens is a two-time Hobart champion while Navarro is playing in her first-ever tour final. Elise Mertens defeated the wildcard Daria Saville in three sets in the semifinals. It was the first time in the competition that she had lost a set. The Belgian has been in fine form here and is highly favoured to win a third title. If she does she will become the first ever player to do so here. Mertens, who has won five of six matches this season, won back-to-back Hobart titles with the last coming in 2018. Emma Navarro has catapulted up to a new career high thanks to advancing to her first-ever tour final. The American is ranked 29th in the live ranking. She defeated the qualifier Yuan Yue in straight sets and lost seven games in her second 2-0 victory of the tournament. Navarro has started the season exceptionally well and has won seven of the eight matches she has played. She was a semifinalist in Auckland in her first tournament of the year. Last season, the 22-year-old contested seven ITF finals and won five with two coming on hard courts. Though the levels are completely different, she will hope for the same success here.
