Former Australian Open champions Sofia Kenin and Victoria Azarenka were also beaten by the player who only returned to the circuit earlier this year after giving birth. Her biggest challenge came in the last eight where she overpowered world number one and reigning French Open champion Iga Swiatek in three sets. Svitolina is now up a massive 49 places in the live ranking to 27th. The former Wimbledon and US Open semifinalist has now won 17 of the 25 matches she has played with five of her victories coming on grass. This will be the sixth match between her and Vondrousova and comes two years after the last. She has won three times and will be confident of a fourth victory.

Marketa Vondrousova has advanced to her first Wimbledon semifinal and the second at a Grand Slam. Before this season her best result here was a second-round appearance in 2021. The former French Open finalist defeated fourth seed Jessica Pegula in three sets to book this match with Svitolina. After winning her first three rounds by straight sets, Vondrousova has dropped a set in her last two matches. The Czech returned to the tour at the start of the year after almost missing the entire 2022 campaign due to injury. This is the highlight of her season thus far. The win over Pegula was her 27th of the season and the seventh on grass. Vondrousova isn't a strong performer on grass and this is only the second time she has won multiple matches on the surface in a season. Her career grass-court record stands at 12-12.
