Elina Svitolina, the 15th seed at the French Open, and the unseeded Karolina Pliskova will rekindle their rivalry at the tournament. The two are scheduled to square off in the first round with the winner playing Fiona Ferro or Diane Parry next. Elina Svitolina has won four times in nine meetings with Pliskova. Though it's been five years since their last encounter, Svitolina will be confident of a win here. She is on a four-match winning run in this fixture and also has had multiple deep runs at the French Open in the past. The Ukrainian is a four-time French Open quarter-finalist and has never lost a first-round tie here. Her last run to the last eight was achieved last year. Svitolina has compiled a 15-10 record and has recorded five of her wins on clay. The 29-year-old, who is down four places to 23rd in the live ranking, was runner-up in Adelaide. She also made the fourth round in Melbourne and Rome. Svitolina is coming off a second-round exit in Strasbourg.

The former world number one has however not been able to reach such form since. She has lost five of her last six fixtures and is on a two-match skid. A former French Open semi-finalist, Pliskova, who is placed 48th in the live ranking, has lost two of three clay matches. She was defeated in the first round in Strasbourg last time out. The 32-year-old was eliminated in the first round here last season.
