For the second successive tournament, Elena Rybakina and Paula Badosa will go toe to toe when they face off on Sunday in round three of the Miami Open. The match will be played on an outdoor hard court and will be the seventh meeting between these two players. Badosa has the advantage with four victories but Rybakina won the last time they met, two weeks ago in this very same round at Indian Wells. The world number seven secured a straight-sets victory as she marched on to win her first title of the season. She will hope for the same outcome against a player who has only gone past this round once in six previous appearances.

Paula Badosa has dominated Rybakina over the years but the two players have gradually gone in opposite directions in the world rankings for the last year or so and this has coincided with Rybakina arriving as a favourite whenever they meet. The Spaniard former world number two has been plagued by injury this season which has led to her playing just nine matches. She has a winning record though with six wins with the latest victory coming in the previous round against the qualifier Laura Siegemund. Despite the win, last year’s quarterfinalist here in Miami, has dropped out of the top 30 for the first time in two years and prepares to serve off on Sunday ranked 33 in the live ranking.
