Defending Abu Dhabi champion Elena Rybakina has no seeded players between her and the final. In the last eight, Rybakina faces Ons Jabeur for a place in the semi-finals. Can Jabeur beat the champion?

Rybakina is down to seventh in the live rankings. The last list had her in fifth and she’ll only return to that position if retaining this outdoor hard court title.

The 25-year-old reached round four at this year’s Australian Open, losing to Madison Keys who went on to win the title. In Abu Dhabi, Rybakina began her defence against Katie Volynets and won in three after losing the first set to the qualifier.

Ons Jabeur leads her opponent 3-2 in previous meetings and 2-1 on hard courts. This is their first hard court match since 2021.

Jabeur has been battling injuries and is 34th in the live rankings. However, in the WTA Live Race, the Tunisian is 21st, 11 places behind her opponent. This is her second quarter-final of the year having reached the last eight in Brisbane.

The 30-year-old has so far beaten seventh seed Jelena Ostapenko and qualifier Wakana Sanobe without dropping a set. This could be a long match and three of their previous five meetings have gone to a final set.
