Elena Rybakina won this WTA 1000 tournament in 2023.  The 25-year-old is the world number seven but sixth in the Live Race. This year has seen her win 14 of her 19 matches and has been one of the most consistent players on the WTA Tour.

Three semi-finals and one other quarter-final have been reached this year.  Her one match in this tournament has seen her beat Suzan Lamens in straight sets, both won 6-3.

Katie Boulter is up to 35th in the live rankings after her three-set win over Irina-Camelia Begu in her first match. It took just short of three hours to win that match. The first set was lost on a tie-break but Boulter won the next two for the loss of three games, all in the second set.

The 23-year is taking part in only her second singles tournament of 2025. There's only been one previous match between these two players. That was in 2023 on grass and Rybakina won for the loss of only two games.
