Top seed Elena Rybakina begins her Adelaide International campaign in the second round and will battle lucky loser Cristina Bucsa. The current world number three began the campaign in Brisbane where she won the title without dropping a set. Cristina Bucsa has grabbed the second chance accorded to her to play in the main draw here with both hands. The Spaniard had been eliminated from the competition after losing her final qualifying match. But was granted a chance to continue in the competition as a lucky loser. The Spaniard defeated Jasmine Paolini in straight sets in the first round. She lost six games against a player ranked more than 30 places above her in the WTA. This should have her confident of causing an upset here. Bucsa, who began the campaign in Brisbane, has won three of the five matches she has so far played. This has allowed her to move up five places in the live ranking to number 56, a new career high.
