Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Yue Yuan Prediction & Betting Tips - WTA Monterrey Open

Two seeded players face each other in the last eight of the Monterrey Open. Ekaterina Alexandrova is the third seed for this hard court tournament with her opponent Yue Yuan seeded seventh. Here's our match prediction.

The winner of this match will face unseeded opposition in the semi-final, either Lulu Sun or Erika Andreeva. Alexandrova is the world number 30 but was a career-high 15th five months ago. In the live rankings, the Russian is down to 32nd place.

That's because Alexandrova is about to drop the points earned when reaching the final in Cleveland last August. Her form hasn't been that great in recent months and she lost to Yuan in the Paris Olympics, though that was on clay.

Good form has been shown on hard courts this year with a run to the semi-finals in Miami where both Iga Swiatek and Jessica Pegula were beaten. Before that she made it to the semi-finals in Brisbane and lost in the final in Linz.

Only one match has had to be played to reach this quarter-final. That didn't present her with too many problems as she beat unseeded Renata Zarazua in straight sets for the loss of only seven games.

Yue Yuan is at 38th in the latest published rankings and up two places in the live list. That's equalled her career-high that was achieved in May of this year. The 25-year-old has been struggling for form and hadn't won two matches in a tournament since April until this week.

One title has been won this year though with success in the ATX Open in Texas five months ago. Victories have come in Monterrey against qualifier Aleksandra Kunic but only after losing the first set.

Smoother progress was made in her second match with a straight sets victory over unseeded Petra Martic. We tip Alexandrova to win this match.
